Making the Investment

It is no secret that buying healthy food is expensive. Shopping at Whole Foods vs Walmart is a big decision, especially during this tough economic time. But what are we really spending money on? Just our weekly groceries? Or are we really spending money on our health? It is easy to look at the grocery list and try to make it as cheap as possible by buying the cheapest loaf of bread or the non-organic spinach. But its important to look at the big picture here. The bottom line is that the more money we spend on our health now the less we will spend on it later in life. Let me say this again- the more that we spend on our health now, the less we will spend later in life. We need to pay attention to what we are putting into our bodies because this is the biggest investment we can make. Think about it this way- the more money we spend today on our food, the healthier we will be, and the less money we will have to spend on medical bills, diet plans, and prescription medicines later in life.

Obesity has stricken our nation- and it is now an epidemic. There are now more overweight children than there ever has been. So if you don't want to spend the money on your health, at least do it for your family and your children. Growing up to have the right attitude about food is so important for todays youth. It is also important to teach them the importance of growing up with the right kind of food. When I was growing up we always bought the cheapest of every food, and I do not blame my parents for this- because they were doing the absolute best that they knew at the time. But we know SO MUCH more now. So use what you know about ingredients and healthy food (and if you don't know, research it, or send me any questions that you have and I would love to blog about it!) to empower yourselves and your family so that you all live the happy and healthy lives that you deserve.

Make it a priority to make the investment on your next shopping trip. This is the most important thing you can do for yourself and your family. And I guarantee you if you stop buying soda and chips and put that money towards the healthy groceries you will spend the same amount of money! So give it a try and make the commitment to yourself that you deserve to eat the best. Because you can have every single material thing in the world, but without your health, and the health of your family it won't mean a thing.
